Saving electricity has become a double solution for all those who intend to contribute to the environment and seek to improve the economy of the home .

6 Tips to save electricity

You should start with a few small changes to adapt your home to , and to which to adjust your needs so as not to waste or consume more energy than normal. These tips to save electricity can be very beneficial to you .

1.- Measure how and how much you consume

What is not measured cannot be improved, and we all have electronic equipment at home such as computers, DVDs, televisions, game consoles or mobile chargers that have stand-by mode, which represents, on average, 12% of the electricity bill at the residential level in the world.

There are numerous devices, such as energy monitors that are cheap, simple and allow us to measure our electricity consumption in real time, being a fundamental tool to find out how and where we consume electricity at home.

2. Change the electric water heater

The electric water heater represents one of the electrical appliances that consumes the most electrical energy. Its performance is very low, it consumes more when it is older (due to lime scale) and it uses a very expensive form of energy. If you can change it for a boiler or instantaneous biomass or gas heater.

3. Switch to efficient HVAC

Thermally insulate your home, use renewable energy such as solar thermal, and if you have radiators, replace them with heat pumps, which also provide air conditioning in summer. For every kilowatt of electricity used in a heat pump, 3 kilowatts of thermal power are generated. The radiators generate less than 1 thermal kW for each electrical kW consumed.

4. Change the bulbs

Today there are already all kinds of LED bulbs and luminaires at very affordable prices. Replacing a GU10 capped halogen with the LED equivalent provides savings of 80-90% over halogens and incandescents, and up to 50% over CFLs.

5. Optimize your electricity contract

If you work out all day, switch to a tariff with hourly discrimination, where you can get discounts of up to 45% on the price of the kWh consumed in the off-peak period (between 10pm and 12pm the next day). With a simple procedure you can reduce the bill up to 30% (valid for Spain, we do not know in the rest of the countries).

6. Generate your own clean energy

Save up to 10% on your electricity bill, producing your own clean energy with the new self-consumption solar kits. The system can be installed on roofs, balconies or facades and connects directly to a house socket. The electricity generated by the panels is consumed by any electrical appliance in the home, thus avoiding the consumption of the network and providing savings in the electricity bill.
