Have you ever wondered what the Mother Hen Syndrome is ? Perhaps you have heard it but you do not have more information about the subject, the truth is that there are people who suffer from this pathology and in some cases they do not know it.

What is a mother hen?

The chickens moms , are none other than mothers overprotective , who want to be taking care of their children even when they are grown and self – sufficient to do it themselves. It is normal for any mother to feel a certain degree of fear around what may happen to her child, it is more common if it is a newborn, since the mother must ensure their well-being, the issue becomes more complicated if this concern is exaggerated it goes beyond the limits and affects the life of the child, no matter how old they are.

Likewise, it generates an inconvenience, not only the fear that the subject suffers but the way in which it reflects it, can be overwhelming. The term ” Mother Hen” is applied , because literally the mother wants to protect her young under her wings, to make sure that nothing bad happens to them.

The goal is not to expose your creatures to situations that could harm them physically or emotionally . This could be counterproductive for children, who living under their mother’s wings, in a bubble, cannot see real life as it is, becoming fragile and helpless beings.

A toxic love

The fear of mothers is transmitted to their children, these through a minimal warning can instill a ridiculous fear. They tend to control everything, every step and every action that their children take, leaving them almost without the possibility of opening their own wings, generating a feeling of dependency.

This, in turn, creates children with distorted, confused personalities who have no clear goal in life other than to follow the rules and warnings demanded by the mother. There is also the case of the obedient, who out of fear of the mother, stay out of their comfort zone. On the other hand, there are those who make their life an eternal challenge, trying to show their independence to the world, but mainly to the mother hen. In both cases, relationships break down at some point and the children become troubled teens.

Insecure mothers, insecure sons

Fearful children will become insecure adults , with conflicts to develop and stand firm, with problems to make decisions, but above all to face life as it is. Mothers believe that by taking care of them, making sure that they do not make mistakes, do not have failures and overcome falls, they are doing their job as mothers, but the truth is that they are turning their children into people unable to overcome everyday situations on their own.

How mother hen syndrome affects children

It is important for the confidence of a child, a young person and an adult, to learn from their mistakes and failures, to know that life will not always be rosy, but that above all, they will be able to overcome it. It is necessary for the mother to learn to channel her need to protect the child and guide him, so that he is able to take risks, assume a position as an individual, decide for himself, engage in daily life without feeling controlled, much less held down.

It is propitious for the mother to allow the child to have the freedom to grow at her own pace, to help him take his first steps, but also to allow him to open his wings to fly and not prevent him from starting his own path. Mothers are needed who know how to discern between protecting and controlling .
