Gut bacteria produce an appetite suppressant that can enhance the effectiveness of an exercise-based weight loss program . This means that adding an appetite suppressant supplement along with moderate exercise increases the likelihood of losing weight, even without changing your diet.

Supplementation to burn fat after exercise

Propionate is a short chain fatty acid produced in the process of digestion of dietary fiber by intestinal microorganisms [¹]. This is a natural appetite suppressant and is very effective. Propionate breaks down rapidly in the body, so to enhance its effects, scientists chemically combine it with inulin. Which is a common fiber in garlic, Jerusalem artichoke, chicory, and onion. The result of this union is inulin-ethyl propionate – IPE. [²]

Scientists are very interested in how the intestinal microflora affects health and well-being. In previous studies, it was found that the use of IPE as a dietary supplement increased the rate at which the body oxidizes fat while resting. The study also showed that IPE suppresses the urge to consume high-calorie foods.

For example, participants who were offered to eat as much pasta as they could ended up eating 10 percent less than usual. A new study has revealed that IPE can enhance the weight loss effects of a moderate exercise program without having to change your diet.

Exercise and take supplements without changing your diet

For the first time, scientists have shown that this effect persists when exercise and regular intake of IPE are combined. The study did not examine the effectiveness of the diet for weight loss in conjunction with exercise and IPE. Twenty women aged 25 to 45 participated in the study. Each of them had a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25.

The study lasted 4 weeks. The team divided the participants into two groups of 10 people. Both groups participated in moderate exercise programs. One group received IPE supplements and the other received placebo supplements containing cellulose. All maintained normal eating habits during the study.

The researchers measured each person’s resting fat oxidation level before and after the test, using blood and gas samples. They collected samples before breakfast, after breakfast, and after dinner. Women who exercised while taking placebo showed no change in fat oxidation levels. However, the IPE group showed a significant increase in resting fat burning, even 7 hours after the last IPE dose.
