We can eliminate persistent moisture stains on the ceiling and walls without resorting to chemical ingredients that are harmful to our health, the products that we will use are natural and will be easily available or perhaps you already have them at home.

Health problems due to the presence of mold on the walls

Mold accumulates in damp, poorly ventilated buildings. Inhaling mold fragments or spores can inflame the airways, causing nasal congestion, wheezing, chest tightness, coughing, and throat irritation.

Long-term exposure to high levels of indoor humidity  can reduce lung function  and cause chronic health problems like asthma. Those who already suffer from asthma and allergies are more likely to have  more severe symptoms when exposed. [¹]

According to the World Health Organization ( WHO ), a  considerable proportion  of the world’s  300 million cases of  childhood asthma in the world is attributable to exposure to indoor humidity and mold.

Solutions to remove moisture stains from the house

There are a few different methods for cleaning tough stains from your wall and ceiling. While magic erasers can work very well on other surfaces, using them to clean your walls can leave water droplet marks that you will need to clean up later.

It is ideal that before treating moisture stains on the walls, the problem that originates them is fixed, which is usually related to broken pipes or drains.

1. Remove stains from latex painted walls

Classic painted white walls (or any color really) can be easily cleaned with one of these two methods, the first is not natural but very effective, the second method is natural.

  1. You can mix a few drops of dish soap in a bucket of warm water, mix well, and then use a cloth or sponge to make the wall shine again and look like new.
  2. Alternatively, you can use a drop or two of distilled white vinegar in a gallon of warm water and do the same thing.

2, Hydrogen peroxide to remove stains

Hydrogen peroxide (also known as hydrogen peroxide) is an antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial solution that effectively kills mold on a variety of materials, such as kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, floors, and walls.

How do we apply it?

Pour a 3% concentration of hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle. Later we must completely cover the moldy surface and let it rest for 10 minutes.

We then scrub the area to remove all mold and moisture stains from the walls or ceiling. And finally, clean the surface to remove dirt and spores.

3. Vinegar solution

Vinegar is a mild acid that can kill 82% of mold species. (Baking soda is often used in conjunction with vinegar to kill different species of mold.) To kill mold: Use distilled white vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle without diluting it. Spray the vinegar on the moldy surface and let it sit for an hour. Finally, clean the area with water and let the surface dry. Any odor from the vinegar should disappear within a few hours.

5. Baking soda

Baking soda is a mild white mineral powder that can be used to kill mold in the home, and is safe for family members and pets.

Baking soda will not only kill mold, but it will absorb moisture to help keep mold away.

How do we use it?

Add a quarter tablespoon of baking soda to a spray bottle of water and shake until dissolved. Spray the moldy area with the baking soda and water solution, then use a brush to remove any mold from the surface. Afterwards, rinse the surface with water to remove any mold and spores on the surface.

Finally, spray the area again and allow the surface to dry. (This will kill any remaining mold and prevent it from re-forming.)

Salt to avoid ceiling and wall stains

The effectiveness of salt in preventing tough mold stains on walls and ceilings is well known. This ingredient has the ability to absorb moisture and reduce the growth of microorganisms that fill the walls with unpleasant stains.

To get the humidity to recede and not form on the walls and ceiling, you must add 1 kilo of salt in a container and put it in a corner or near the stain formations.

Alternatively, salt can be very effective in removing rust from polished metals.

For quick and easy rust removal, make a thick paste of salt, water, and a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Apply to the affected area and let it dry. Rub the rust and salt mixture and buff the metal with a dry cloth.

If you have to clean brass, make a paste with equal amounts of salt, flour, and distilled white vinegar. Apply it, leave it on for 1 hour and then wipe the paste dry with a towel. Buff the brass with a soft cloth.

All of these solutions are excellent non-toxic alternatives to chemical-based cleaners for removing moisture stains from walls and ceiling , and even other surfaces. Not only because they are safe to use and safe for the environment, but these products are all inexpensive and easy to find at your local store.
