It is not surprising to have puffy and red eyes if you have had a bad night, few hours of sleep or if you are going through a hangover. Allergies and chronic sinusitis can be another culprit behind inflamed bag of eyes. And then there is also the stress and different habits of today, like staring at the computer screen for long periods of time.

Some factors could not be immediately associated with excessively puffy eyes however they can play a role. These include a poor diet dominated by salty foods and hormonal changes. Also, the different irritants that you put into your body can play a role in the development of eye bags, such as chemicals found in perfumes, cosmetics, and detergents.

Natural remedies to remove eye bags

There are some people who are just prone to puffiness and puffiness in that area. Genetics can sometimes be blamed day after day for having to put up with black circles.

Cucumber slices

This is probably the most famous natural eye cure and it has become a kind of beauty ritual. Cut the cucumber, put the slices in a plastic bag and freeze them. Lie down on a pillow and place the frozen cucumber slices over your eyes for about 10 minutes. Cucumbers contain antioxidants that soothe irritation, while the cooling effect helps reduce swelling.

Tea bags

You can use green or black tea for this treatment to remove eye bags . The green tea contains more antioxidants and will probably be more effective to reduce irritation. Some herbal teas can be used as well, such as chamomile which is known for its calming effect.

Soak two tea bags in hot water for a couple of minutes, take them out, and let them cool. Put the tea bags on the eyes while lying down. Leave them there for 10-15 minutes. You can repeat the process several times a day.

Saltwater

This remedy uses the principle of osmosis to get rid of excess water around the eyes that is what causes the bag of eyes .

Mix half a teaspoon of sea salt with 4 cups of water. The water should be warm, so that the salt dissolves, but do not make the mixture too hot or your eyes will burn. Soak cotton balls or eye pads in the saline water and put them on your eyelids for a few minutes. Repeat the treatment several times.

Ice

Ice refreshes your eyes. It causes blood vessels to constrict and reduce swelling. Wrap the ice cubes in a towel and press it against your eyes for a few minutes.

If you’re in a hurry, a splash of cold water can have a similar effect. Rinse your face with cold water and enjoy the feeling of cold as it wakes up and revives your eyes.

Egg whites and witch hazel

Using egg whites may sound a bit weird, but it is known to help tighten the skin and prevent wrinkles . Witch hazel is a natural skin astringent.

Use two egg whites. Beat thoroughly so that you get a hard consistency. Add a few drops of witch hazel. Apply the mixture to your eyes with a brush or a soft cloth and allow it to dry. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then rinse it off. You can repeat this daily.

Aloe vera

The Aloe Vera plant is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E that soothe and nourish the skin and also help with wrinkles. It is better if you get some fresh leaves and open them using the gel. Gently apply under the eyes and make sure it does not get into the eyes. The act of massaging itself will reduce swelling, as it improves blood circulation and helps with fluid elimination.

Massage

When the bags are connected with the accumulation of lymphatic fluid, an eye massage can do the trick. Gently massage the area around the eyes with your fingers. Use circular motions. Do this for a few minutes in the morning. Or, have a little respite during the day to help your eyes relax when you start to feel tired.

Other things to consider to get rid of eye bags

There are other things that can help keep your eyes fresh and healthy:

  • Keep hydrated. If you don’t drink enough water during the day, your body will begin to store it around your eyes as a reservoir for rainy days. When you don’t drink enough water, your eye bags can be a direct result of this . Make sure you drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses a day (1.5 to 2 liters of water a day). Besides puffy eyes, dehydration has other drawbacks.
  • Avoid excess salt in your diet , as it can cause fluid retention.
  • See if your eyes get irritated when you put on a certain hairspray or after putting on makeup. Avoid chemical irritants and bet on natural products that are less likely to cause adverse reactions.
  • Take a break when you work and let your eyes rest.
  • Use two pillows to prop your head slightly higher when you fall asleep. Elevation prevents fluid build-up around the eyes.
  • Don’t rub your eyes rigorously. Avoid touching your eyes, unless it is to give them a gentle massage.
