This lemon cleansing and detox diet has been around for almost 50 years and has undergone recipe and program variations. Lemon detox is effective in breaking down accumulated toxins in the body and at the same time contributes to short-term weight loss.  It has become a popular choice for a spring detox.

Reviewing the detox diet

The lemon detox diet came into being when its creator, Stanley Burroughs , recommended it for healing stomach ulcers.

In his book ” The Master Cleanser, ” he shares how he first got to test his diet on a patient who suffered from an ulcer for three years. Having no other recourse, the patient approached Stanley who recommended that he do the cleaning.

After eleven days of taking the lemon cleansing and detox diet , the patient was completely cured to the amazement of the doctors. Many other cases followed with the same consistent and amazing results within ten days.

It should also be noted that those who experienced the lemon detox diet also experienced a reduction in weight .

How the Lemon Detox Diet Works

The principle of this diet must be done in conjunction with the factors that trigger the disease to be treated. Simplifying and correcting disorders through this process is actually a way to correct all diseases.

Advances in nutrition and science have clearly identified that an inadequate diet, negative mental attitudes and lack of exercise are the factors that create the conditions to produce toxins that accumulate, producing diseases.

Therefore, the lemon detox diet is not an end in itself. In reality, it is just the tip of a long chain of healthy decisions by those who want to make it through. A healthy diet, regular exercise, as well as stress reduction is essential to maintaining the gains that the lemon detox diet can offer.

How to prepare for the lemon detox diet

Going on a detox diet is like preparing for a marathon. It is necessary not to lose sight of the goals or you will stay on the road, a victim of your doubts.

Defining the result after having identified where you are and what you want to achieve is the next step to achieve the goal you have set for yourself.

Some people prepare before undergoing the detox and focus on a vegetarian diet. It is less stressful on the body and makes the transition to lemon cleanse easier.

Precautions before detoxification

For those who regularly drink coffee or carbonated drinks, a gradual reduction in intake is recommended. People who have had organ transplants as well as those taking immunosuppressive medications should not go on this detox diet.

It is noted that the cleanse stimulates the immune system , while inhibiting the results of the medications, and this combination will likely lead to the organ transplant being rejected by the body.

How to perform the detox cleanse

The Lemon Detox Diet is a cleansing program and encourages only the consumption of lemonade made from the following ingredients:

  • Lemons
  • Pure Organic Maple Syrup
  • Pure cayenne pepper
  • Mineralized water

The diet process must be done for a minimum of 10 (ten) days.

Lemon detox diet preparation

To create the mixture, mix the ingredients in the amount that the instructions provide and drink a minimum of at least six to twelve glasses of the mixture every day throughout the day. Drink the lemonade whenever you are hungry.

A laxative should be taken in the morning and then in the evening. Using a salt water enema (with sea salt) instead of a laxative in the morning may be an alternative. However, make sure you get at least three bowel movements in one day. This will ensure that the accumulated waste on the walls of the intestine is completely eliminated.

* Do not microwave it as this will reduce its effectiveness.

How to end the detox diet

Finishing the lemon detox diet is just as critical as getting started. On the first day after finishing the fast, immediately afterwards, slowly introduce orange juice into the diet.

On day two you can introduce vegetable soups and broths. On day three you can consume fruits and vegetables. Be careful not to over cook or eat too soon and drink plenty of water. Gradually eat a normal diet and avoid meat, fish, milk, and eggs.

After cleaning, it is advisable to eat well. The gains from the detox diet will be a powerful basis to change old habits and start a life free of disease.

The Original Detox Lemonade Recipe

Stanley Burroughs’ original detox lemonade recipe produced fantastic results for nearly 50 years. However some people have started offering changes to the original recipe.

The problem with this is that they have done it without understanding why the original ingredients work . Because the Master Cleanse is essentially a juice fast, adding shakes, cayenne pepper capsules, or protein powder in an attempt to improve its effectiveness reduces the effectiveness of the diet.

Studies by Nutrition Research report benefits in overweight Asian women when using the lemon detox diet.

Lemon Cleanse and Detox Diet Goal

The object of the program is to give the digestive tract a ten day vacation, so adding things to the digestive dose does not contribute to the diet goals. Stanley Burroughs advises against taking supplements and vitamins during the program because they interfere with the body’s excretory system.

What’s more, the natural sources of vitamins and minerals already in lemon and maple syrup already supply the body’s needs during the detox program. Other modifications include errors in the water ratios through changes to the original recipe and dilution. This modification alters the intention to drink a minimum of 6 times a day because it is more than the necessary amount of water. It is best to remember that variations in the process and especially in the recipe will not produce the results that originally worked for the many people who followed the original Master Cleanse program and the lemonade recipe.

This is the classic recipe featured in Stanley Burroughs book

  • 2 teaspoons of lemon.
  • 2 teaspoons of organic maple syrup.
  • 1/10 tablespoon cayenne pepper.
  • 10 ounces of water (hot or cold, depending on taste).

For those who cannot enjoy lemonade, you have this alternative:

  1. Mix equal parts lemon juice and organic maple syrup as a concentrate in a dark container. Keep this mixture cold.
  2. Make enough concentrate for the length of time that you will be unable to drink the fresh lemonade juice.
  3. Every time you want a glass of lemonade, pour 4 teaspoons of this mixture into a glass.
  4. Add water and cayenne pepper, stir and drink. Maple syrup preserves lemon juice and prevents oxidation of vitamin C and enzymes.

NOTE:  For the salt water based laxative. One liter of water should be mixed with one to three teaspoons of sea salt and consumed in the morning. The amount of sea salt varies between individuals, as some people get results with one teaspoon, while others will need two or three to see results.
