Although both are low carb diets , there is a big difference between keto and palelolithic diets . Low carb diets are quite popular in the world of weight loss. Surely, on more than one occasion, you have heard people argue about its health benefits and complications.

Both the keto and paleo diets fall into the low carb category, but should not be grouped together. Although they are based on the same principles, they differ greatly in their results , as they were created for different purposes. Let’s start by looking at what each one is about and then we will address their differences.

What is the ketogenic diet?

According to the history of the ketogenic diet, it is a diet created for health, not weight loss. It is basically a recommended diet for people suffering from conditions such as epilepsy. The goal is to bring the body into a state of ketosis, a process by which the body burns stored fat.

When you follow this diet for a long time, you can:

  • Lower blood sugar.
  • Lower body mass.
  • Increase the levels of good cholesterol.

Although it is quite good for treating epilepsy, it is one of the most difficult diets to tolerate. Those who follow this diet should consume 3 calories from fat for each one from carbohydrates or protein. That makes it difficult to ingest.

What is a Paleolithic Diet?

When you follow the paleo diet, you should eat meat. Logic indicates that the Paleolithic people consumed few grains and vegetables, therefore their diet was high in protein. Thus, those who follow this diet seek to obtain energy from animal products that contain high amounts of protein and low carbohydrates.

The foods to avoid are:

Modern man has to face chronic diseases that did not exist in the prehistoric era. Therefore, the theory goes that eating the way they did will improve our health. However, nutritional experts claim that a restrictive diet with some foods and permissive for others is not balanced. In addition, there is no evidence to prove that paleo are in better health than non-dieters.

Difference between ketogenic and paleolithic diet

On a ketogenic diet, the focus is on manipulating all three macronutrients:

  • Grease
  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins.

The Paleo diet is about prioritizing the intake of one type of food and eliminating others. You need to eliminate dairy products, processed foods, and grains, so it becomes unbalanced.

Today, both keto and paleo diets are used to promote weight loss . However, before deciding on a specific diet, we must assess our needs.
