This natural rock formation off the coast of Iceland impresses travelers. It seems that a gigantic elephant came ashore on the island of Heimaey to quench its thirst. The huge shape appears to be made of basalt rock, which gives the elephant’s wrinkled skin a superficial appearance.

This is a rock that looks naturally like the face of an elephant . These elephant-like rock formations are found on the island of Heimaey in Iceland. In a town called “Vestmannaeyjar Archipelago ” with around 4,500 inhabitants.

Despite having a population of 4,500, it is considered the most populated island in the Vestmannaeyjar chain. Heimaey is also home to Eldfell (Mountain of Fire), which is 660 feet high, the active volcano, is the main cause of the formation of the rock with the face of the elephant.

The active volcano, Eldfell, occasionally erupts without warning and residents have to use a tactic of collecting seawater to cool the running lava. Therefore, strange rock formations can be found all over the island.

Maybe we can find a tiger-faced rock very soon. The beauty of visiting Heimaey and all its glorious island Vestmannaeyjar, is that you can find the killer whale, which is the same type of whale that appears in “Free Willy”. And there are many hiking trails that can even take you to Eldfell. Judging from the names of these ancient islands, it is like a journey through the “Game of Thrones” or even “The Lord of the Rings.”
