Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, imagination encompasses everything ”. This phrase was from Albert Einstein, a great genius of all time in the sense that he possessed extraordinary gifts for science, which could only be surpassed by his insatiable creativity. And this article, although not about this genius of science, it is about how we can be more creative with our brain. Creative minds will always be in demand. They are necessary in the world of arts, business, politics and in general, in our society.

If you want to be more creative, train your brain in these ways

Here are some ways to expand and harness the creative talents in your mind. It doesn’t matter if you are the next Elon Musk or some high school student trying to understand the world (and your place in it). If you value creativity – and you should – this article will provide you with some helpful tips.

1. Don’t think about the result

The best creative minds are much more concerned with the process, not the product. By staying in the moment and focusing your attention on the task at hand, a good creator innately understands that a favorable outcome is more likely.

Enjoy the process. The result will take care of itself.

2. No to criticism

When very penetrated and agitated with work, we are prone to criticize our own work, and sometimes at obsessive levels, and for this reason, the quality of our work often suffers not very pleasant consequences. Commonly, you cannot think clearly.

When creators relax, and distance themselves from any self-imposed beliefs, ideas begin to flow.

3. Relax

Stress is a terrible companion to creativity. The best ideas do not appear, and cannot, when the mind is tense. They must come naturally. Do whatever it takes to relax. Go for a walk, sit by a lake or under a tree, meditate, play a video game, whatever.

Read about some of the creative breakthroughs people have made while relaxing. Even while they sleep or doze. Paul McCartney, co-founder of the Beatles, said of the song Yesterday : “I woke up to a lovely melody in my head. It’s great, I wonder what it is. ” The rest is history.

4. Write your ideas

Jotting down creative ideas does two important things. First, you will have a physical record of the idea, making it more plausible that something will come out of it. Second, this habit frees up valuable brain resources to gather other creative ideas.

So, keep a “creative journal” and pen handy.

5. Read a lot

Perhaps no other activity makes a brain more creative than reading . So it is an irreplaceable activity for creators. When we read on a consistent basis, new neural connections are formed in the brain – a process known as neuroplasticity.

Reading doesn’t need to be a dreadful activity. Find any topic that interests you and spend half an hour reading every night before bed.

6. Listen to Mozart

Speaking of Einstein, he allegedly attributed his creative talents to Mozart, who is considered by many to be the most prolific and influential composer of the classical era.

On the so-called “Mozart effect”, there is an abundance of research showing that Mozart’s music can induce a short-term improvement in the performance of certain types of mental tasks known as “space-time” reasoning.

7. Meditate to be more creative

This article simply wouldn’t be complete without discussing the benefits of meditation on creativity. Meditation is conducive to creative thinking in that the practice calms and relaxes the mind. According to the University of Southern California , the average person has 60 to 70 thousand thoughts per day.

Remember what was discussed earlier about the importance of a relaxed mind in creative thinking? Meditation, when practiced effectively, promotes superior brain function – an essential component for thinking and being more creative.

8. Throw away the “bad stuff”

Alcohol, cigarettes, refined sugars, processed foods – consumed all over the world, especially in the West – all are counterproductive to sustainable creative thinking.

These “bad things” quickly deplete our energy levels. Including energy resources within the brain. Eliminating these toxic elements will help maintain your energy and promote a sense of health and well-being. Energy, health, and well-being are important qualities when it comes to thinking creatively.

9. Exercise your body and brain

Physical activity is a vital component to maintaining energy and health levels, and consequently, it is a powerful inducer of original thoughts.

Exercising your brain is just as important. More specifically, puzzles and abstract activities change the resources of the brain to approach a solution from a different angle. As our brain’s creative neural connections grow, so will our ability to conceive of creative ideas.

There are tons of ways to exercise your brain to be more creative . If you own a cell phone, plenty of free apps on the market will test your problem-solving skills. Or, you can go the old-fashioned route and buy pieces of the puzzle.
