If you’ve ever been to a gym , you’ve surely seen some unsavory characters who don’t follow proper gym etiquette and make you want to not come back. At Sleeeeeep we have listed the 8 rules you must follow to make the gym experience much more enjoyable for you and your gym partners.

8 things you should never do at the gym

Going to the gym is quite difficult at times. But you convince yourself because it’s good for you. Maybe you even want a good workout to shake off some stress. However, getting there and seeing a guy roaring every time he lifts weights, and some woman spilling her sweat all over the Stairmaster, makes you want to retreat to the comfort and peace of your couch.

Our shared gym experience would be so much better if people followed these rules :

1. Don’t leave your team sweaty

While there’s nothing wrong with sweating during exercise, wearing a workout towel is an important part of proper gym etiquette, as well as wiping sweat off your equipment after use. Remember that most machines are covered in leather and your sweat will not disappear unless you clean it.

2. Do not occupy the equipment unless you are using it

There are people who just hang from the team in the wrong way. They’re texting on their phones, checking emails, taking selfies, or even napping while others are waiting to get that particular machine. If you are in the gym, you are there to work. Do not forget.

3. Calls and speakers

Some of the most annoying people in the gym are the ones who have very long and loud conversations on their phones during a workout.

The other irritating guys are the ones who like to play their music so loud that others can even hear it through their own headphones.

4. Machines are for everyone

Do you remember how in kindergarten we were taught that toys were for all children? This is how you should behave in the gym. Don’t stick to a piece of equipment for a long time. Don’t spend 2 hours on the treadmill if you see people waiting to use it as well.

5. Leave weights everywhere

Another thing that you must have learned in childhood is that you should not leave your toys scattered everywhere. The same rule applies in the gym: always put the weights back where they belong . Leaving them on the gym floor can cause someone to fall or injure themselves.

6. Pressure gym users

Using a machine for 60 minutes is rude, but so is standing with your arms crossed in front of a person who is exercising and looking at them with a “hurry up” face.

7. Being late to class

Don’t be late for class. It doesn’t matter if it’s a group fitness class or a personal training session. This can be a distraction for the instructor and other members of the class. If you are late, at least make sure to interrupt the class as little as possible.

8. The gym locker room is not your personal bathroom.

There is always one person parading around the room naked making others uncomfortable, and there are those who shave in the shower for hours and leave everything covered in foam and hair.

Even if you don’t mind being seen naked, remember that there are others who get uncomfortable around someone who is naked or takes off their clothes in public. Respect others, their time, and their privacy. Keep in mind that the gym locker room is not your personal bathroom, and be sure to clean up afterward.
