The human being cannot endure more than 48 hours without sleeping at all. Because sleep is essential to enjoy good health. It is not advisable to sleep less than seven hours or more than ten, the ideal average being about eight hours of sleep.
These habits can keep you from resting
If from now on you want to get a rest and have a pleasant sleep so as not to waste valuable time counting sheep, surely you should stop practicing any of these 5 bad habits that can prevent you from resting.
1. Being very close to electrical appliances
Excessive presence of electronic devices in the room. Cell phones, computers, televisions, radios, tablets, alarm clocks … It is very common to use them before going to bed because we like to check email or send a message. But this insane habit will cause us to stimulate the brain with information, preventing it from disconnecting, relaxing and resting.
2. Inappropriate dinners
There are foods that if we consume during dinner they will not help us to fall asleep at all. The tomato sauce of the pizzas has high levels of acidity that will cause reflux, red meat takes longer to be digested than other meats and ice cream because of its fat and sugar content, does not help either. Stimulant products such as coffee, tea, chocolate, soft drinks, alcohol, and tobacco are frequently consumed. Going to bed on a full stomach is not a good choice. Remember that it is convenient to allow at least two hours to elapse before going to bed and having a light dinner to avoid heavy digestion preventing us from resting properly.
3. Practice some physical activity
Doing physical activity within three hours of going to sleep is not advisable. Because by practicing exercise we increase body temperature and energy levels being an impediment to falling asleep.
4. Using the wrong pillows and mattresses that are already of retirement age
These two elements are essential to get adequate rest. The pillows should cover the gap between the mattress and our shoulder, so that in this way the spine is aligned during the hours of sleep. If the pillow is higher, the head and shoulders are higher than the rest of the body so it does not rest. Mattresses need to be renewed approximately every 10 years. But we often forget about it.
5. An inappropriate environment
We often forget that the presence of light and noise will prevent us from sleeping. The light acts as a stimulant for the brain. So even the tiny lights on the alarm clock or router are preventing us from falling asleep. But also the lighting of the street or the moon. It is essential to sleep in a dark room, without ambient noises such as the ticking of the clock or traffic, because they have a negative impact on sleep.
