When you think about the characteristics that make up a strong-willed individual , what tops the list? Probably things like confidence, determination, and resilience, right? But what about sensitivity? One thing should not be “fought” with the other since we are human, and all emotions are valid and also, sensitivity can exist in individuals of strong character and vice versa.

Signs that you are a strong but very sensitive person

It may seem a bit counter-intuitive, but emotionally strong people can, in fact, be very sensitive people too. It’s not that one trait has to compete with the other either; both can coexist to create a balanced and deep individual.

Do you think you could be a strong but sensitive person? Let’s explore some indicators.

1. You have no problem admitting that you are overwhelmed

The strongest person is not necessarily the one who can take the most stress. In fact, the strongest person is often the one who knows his limits at any given moment and slows down when these limits are reached.

This, in fact, makes that individual stronger in the long run. They don’t suffer as many breakdowns as those who lack sensitivity and the self-understanding that comes with it.

Does this resonate with you? You are surely emotionally strong but highly sensitive.

2. You look for real connections

Highly sensitive people want to connect deeply with other people. When you combine that with an emotionally strong personality, you get someone who won’t tolerate petty conversations for a long time.

They have no problem opening up about political opinions and values. If a potential suitor or friend is hesitant to do the same, that person will probably not go beyond the “knowing” stage in the eyes of a highly sensitive and emotionally strong individual.

3. You have very high standards and are not afraid to enforce them

Whereas a highly sensitive person may indeed have high standards, and they are not afraid to enforce them. Their empathic tendencies mean that they go out of their way to understand where people are coming from. Unfortunately that means you have to deal with a lot of low attitudes.

But when high sensitivity is combined with emotional strength, no junk is going to fly over that person’s world. The highly sensitive but strong individual knows what they deserve and they know what to do when they are not getting it.

4. You tell it like it is

Highly sensitive people find it very easy to feel the emotions of others. At a party, they know who feels left out and they know who was hurt by what ‘this or that’ said.

When conflicts arise, emotional strength gives that highly sensitive person the confidence to express himself impartially and accurately. So do you identify yourself as a highly sensitive individual, but with a strong character? You certainly carry a lot of balance around you.
