How to prepare mouthwashes to prevent bad breath

In addition to the periodic visit to the dentist or dentist to perform a deep oral cleaning, mouthwashes help keep bad breath at bay. Mouthwashes are usually quite expensive, so it is ideal to make a homemade one , which in addition to helping us in the household economy, we will know that it is made with good quality components.

Carrying out one is very simple, the only important thing is to know how to calculate the amount of it according to the number of people in the family. This is important because the effects of homemade mouthwashes, as they do not have industrial preservatives, expire after approximately 30 days of preparation.

Mouthwash with mint and basil


  • 1000 cc. of water.
  • 50 grams of juniper berries.
  • Some mint and basil leaves.
  • Rose petals.


Place all the ingredients in a pot or saucepan and remove from the heat when it reaches the boiling point.
Let cool, strain, pour into a container and store in the refrigerator. Make one to two daily rinses as needed.

Mouthwash with cloves and parsley


  • 1000 cc. of water.
  • 10 grams of cloves .
  • 2 ramitos de perejil .
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of mint essence (tureens).
  • ½ teaspoon of green food coloring.


With a piece of cloth or gauze, make a bag and place the cloves and parsley inside and close very well.
In a saucepan, pour the water, the food coloring and mix well until the food coloring is well dissolved. Bring to a high heat and when it starts boiling add the cloth bag, lowering to medium heat. Boil for 10 minutes.

Add the essence of cinnamon and mint and boil for another 10 minutes. Remove from heat, let cool and strain. Make one to two daily rinses as needed.


Rosemary and thyme mouthwash


  • 1000 cc. of water.
  • 1 tablespoon of eucalyptus leaves.
  • 1 tablespoon of fennel leaves .
  • 1 tablespoon of rosemary leaves.
  • 1 tablespoon of mint stems and leaves.
  • 1 tablespoon of thyme stems and leaves.
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano stems and leaves.
  • 1 tablespoon of arnica flowers.
  • 4 clove flower buds.
  • 1 sprig of cinnamon .


In a saucepan, pour the water and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat to low and add the plants, let it rest covered for about 10 minutes. Strain and let cool. Make one to two daily rinses as needed.

Precautions: If you feel any type of irritation, stop treatment immediately.
